Biracial California
Horsing around in the little pool on the farm. Note the cattle in the background.
On the beach.
My parents brought gifts from Nigeria to the relatives in California. Some of it must have been cloth, that perfect Nigerian gift. Here, my cousins wear the cloth in the same style as their relatives overseas. A deep image.
A monkey in a cowboy hat, riding a dog. This must have been taken at a state fair in California. An American flag flies in the background. I can only imagine how utterly foreign this all was to my father, in the same way that Nigeria was for my mother.
Cousins from different sides of the Atlantic, together in the Pacific ocean.
My father and our in-laws pose in front of a camper in Yosemite National Park.
Relatives in the kitchen.
My father at the water’s edge.
